Before you do anything else
- Do not run the opener again. If a spring has broken, the opener is trying to lift 150–250 lb on its own. You will strip the gear or pull the door further off track.
- Do not pull the red emergency release while the door is up. With a broken spring there is nothing holding the weight. The door will come down hard and fast.
- Do not try to lift it by hand. A double door with a failed spring is heavier than most people expect, and it does not let go gently.
- Keep children and pets out of the garage until it has been made safe.
- If a car is trapped and you need it tonight, tell us on the phone — sometimes we can talk you through a safe manual release, and sometimes the honest answer is that it waits.

Plenty of garage door websites promise round-the-clock service. Most of them route you to a call centre at 2am, take your details, and send someone at nine the next morning anyway.
Here is the real position. We are open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm. Same-day service across Western Riverside County when you reach us inside those hours. Closed Sunday.
If it fails outside those hours, leave it alone, keep everyone clear, and call at 8am. You will be first in the queue and nobody will have made the damage worse overnight.

No. The springs carry the weight of the door, not the opener. With a broken spring the opener is trying to lift 150 to 250 lb on a motor rated for about 30. Running it strips the drive gear and often pulls the door off its track.
If you have already heard the bang, the cheapest thing you can do is stop. A spring job left alone stays a spring job. A spring job that keeps being operated becomes a spring, cable, track and panel job.
Can I replace a garage door spring myself?
We would strongly advise against it. A wound torsion spring stores enough energy to break bones, and winding bars slip. It is one of the few household repairs that regularly sends people to hospital.
If you are determined to try, at minimum use proper winding bars rather than screwdrivers, and never stand directly beneath the bar.
What does a broken spring sound like?
Most people describe it as a gunshot or a loud bang from the garage, often heard from inside the house. It is the sound of the stored energy releasing all at once. If you heard that and the door will not lift, you almost certainly have a broken spring.
Is a broken garage door spring dangerous?
The break itself is over in an instant and rarely hurts anyone. The danger comes afterwards, from a heavy door with nothing holding it up. Do not pull the emergency release while the door is open, and keep children and pets out of the garage.
What should I do if my garage door comes off its track?
Stop using it and keep everyone clear. A door off its track is held by very little and can fall. Do not try to lever it back on, and do not run the opener to see if it corrects itself, because that is how a repair becomes a replacement.
My car is trapped in the garage. What now?
Call us and describe what you can see. Sometimes we can talk you through a safe manual release over the phone. Sometimes the honest answer is that the door has to wait until a tech is there, and forcing it risks both the car and you.
How do I test my garage door safety features?
Two tests, both take a minute. Put a roll of kitchen paper in the door's path and close it; it should reverse on contact. Then wave a broom through the sensor beam mid-close; it should reverse again. If either fails, stop using the door.
What is the red cord hanging from my garage door for?
It disconnects the door from the opener so you can move it by hand. It is meant for power cuts. Never pull it while the door is open, because with a failed spring the door will come down under its own weight.
Are you open on Sundays?
No. We work Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm, and we are closed on Sunday. We would rather tell you that plainly than advertise 24 hours and miss the window.
Do you offer same-day service?
Often, yes, if you reach us inside working hours and you are in our core Western Riverside area. Desert work is normally booked rather than same-day, because it is 60 to 90 minutes each way and we would rather give you a firm window.
