We do not publish a figure and we will not quote one over the phone, and the reason is not evasiveness. Headroom, sideroom, backroom, whether the opening is square and what the existing operator can carry all change the number, and none of them can be assessed from a description. Noticeably, and it is the upgrade people comment on most. Most of the noise from an old door is worn steel rollers and loose hardware rather than the door itself, and a new assembly with sealed nylon rollers on a bonded section is a different machine.
It depends on what the garage is for rather than on a number. Attached to living space or used daily, yes — and understand you are buying a warmer wall for the house and a quieter door, not a cool garage. Detached and used for storage, the money usually does more good in the door and the hardware.
We stop and ask. Rotten jamb timber and out-of-square openings are the two we find most, and neither is visible until the old door is off. You get told what it is and what it changes before any of it is done, not discovered on the invoice.
